WHEREAS, Charles E. Jett, who has served with distinction as Sheriff of Stafford County since 2000 and has worked for the Stafford County Sheriff's Office for 30 years, will retire in 2015; and WHEREAS, Charles Jett's career with the Stafford County Sheriff's Office began when he was 19; he served in various capacities, including work in field operations and criminal investigations; in 1991, he was promoted to captain in charge of field operations, and in 1999, he was elected sheriff; and WHEREAS, as the head of Stafford County's primary law-enforcement service, Charles Jett supervises a dedicated staff of more than 240 people in one of the fastest-growing counties in the Commonwealth; and WHEREAS, Charles Jett readily admits that the opportunity to work with the courageous, selfless, and dedicated people who make up the Stafford County Sheriff's Office has been the highlight of his career; he is extremely proud of the service the department has provided to the citizens of Stafford County; and WHEREAS, Charles Jett is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 187th Session; he has held many leadership positions in his law-enforcement career, including serving as chair of the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, chair of the Criminal Justice Services Board, and is a former state chair of Special Olympics Virginia; and WHEREAS, additionally, Charles Jett has served on the National Sheriffs' Association Traffic Safety Committee and the Virginia Law Enforcement Executive Advisory Committee on Crime Prevention, and he has been a member—and past president—of the Virginia Sheriffs' Association; and WHEREAS, Charles Jett was an inaugural member of the Virginia Commonwealth University Public Safety Institute and is vice chair of the Rappahannock Regional Jail Authority; he also has served on several committees of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and is a member of the advisory board of the Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Charles E. Jett, Sheriff of Stafford County since 2000, on the occasion of his retirement in 2015 and for his tireless work to protect and serve the residents of Stafford County; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charles E. Jett as an expression of the General Assembly's respect and admiration for his many years of service on behalf of the people of Stafford County and the Commonwealth. |
