A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a prohibition on carrying a firearm across the |
|
|
international border of this state into Mexico; creating a criminal |
|
|
offense. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 46.02, Penal Code, is amended by adding |
|
|
Subsections (a-9) and (c) and amending Subsection (b) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(a-9) A person commits an offense if the person transports a |
|
|
firearm to Mexico with the intent to sell the firearm, or purchases |
|
|
a firearm with the intent to transport the firearm to Mexico for |
|
|
distribution, unless otherwise authorized by federal law. |
|
|
(b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), (d), or (e), an |
|
|
offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor. |
|
|
(c) An offense under Subsection (a-9) is a state jail |
|
|
felony. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
