        possession, use, or storage of a firearm or other weapon; creating a  |

			 | 
        criminal offense. |

               BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 42, Human Resources Code,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        is amended by adding Section 42.04413 to read as follows: | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               Sec. 42.04413.  PROHIBITION ON OBTAINING FIREARM  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        INFORMATION.  (a)  This section applies to a person: | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
                     (1)  who holds a license, registration, or  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        certification under this chapter; or | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
                     (2)  who applies for a license, registration, or  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        certification under this chapter. | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               (b)  The department may not request, collect, compile, or  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        disclose information regarding the lawful ownership, possession,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        use, or storage of a firearm or other weapon by a person described  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        by Subsection (a). | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               (c)  A person who violates Subsection (b) commits an offense.   | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor. | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
