               WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        commemorates the life of Valdemar Gomez, who died December 24, 2014,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        at the age of 93; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, Valdemar Gomez was born on February 17, 1921,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        in San Juan, to Febronio Gomez and Gregoria Medina; he proudly  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        served the nation as a member of the United States Army; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Jesusa, raised five  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        children, Bertha, Irma, Valdemar, Gilberto, and Cynthia; they  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        were blessed with 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, Known for his strong work ethic, Valdemar worked  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        at Sears and at the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office; he and  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Jesusa also managed Jessie's Flower Shop for many years, and they  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        were named San Juan Man and Woman of the Year in 2003; his many  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        interests included Cantinflas movies, western novels, and the  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Dallas Cowboys; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        counsel will not be forgotten; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, He was devoted to his large and loving extended  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        family, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        forever by all who were privileged to share in his life; now,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        therefore, be it | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        family of Valdemar Gomez; and, be it further | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        memory of Valdemar Gomez. |
