SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1007
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Alicia Cantu Gomez
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
  of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Alicia Cantu Gomez, who
  died May 1, 2015, at the age of 87; and
         WHEREAS, Alicia Gomez was born in Brownsville on July 17,
  1927, the only child of Manuel Cantu Lapierre and Guadalupe
  Garcia Gomez; she graduated from Villa Maria High School; and
         WHEREAS, Shortly after her graduation, she married Mariano
  Chapa Garcia; they raised four children together and were blessed
  with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, She instilled in her children the values of
  honesty, fairness, unity, and love; she believed strongly in the
  importance of education, and she endured many sacrifices to
  ensure that her children were educated in private schools and
  that they went on to become university graduates; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
  gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her generous spirit,
  and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
  forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, She was the beloved matriarch of her large and
  loving extended family, and she leaves behind memories that will
  be treasured forever by all who were privileged to share in her
  life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Alicia Cantu Gomez; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Alicia Cantu Gomez.
