               WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        temper the profound sadness felt at the death of Roberto Martinez  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Jr. of Clint on May 10, 2014, at the age of 66; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, Born to Roberto and Delfina Martinez in El Paso on  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        June 9, 1947, Roberto Martinez grew up in a large family with 12  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        siblings; he answered his nation's call to duty as a young man,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        serving bravely during the Vietnam War; he was honored for his  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        military service with a number of prestigious accolades, including  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Vietnam Cross of Gallantry; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez enjoyed nearly two decades of marriage  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        with his wife, Sarah, and he was the proud father of six children,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Cristie, Naomi, Olivia, Sergio, Christine, and Melissa; he later  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        knew the joy of welcoming 12 grandchildren and a great-grandson  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        into his cherished family; in retirement, he delighted in spending  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        time with loved ones and his many friends; and | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               WHEREAS, Roberto Martinez Jr. lived a life rich in the  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        intangibles that matter most, and he will long be remembered with  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        great affection by all those who were privileged to know him; now,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        therefore, be it | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roberto Martinez  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        his wife, Sarah Sitters; to his children, Cristie Lopez and Naomi,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Olivia, Sergio, Christine, and Melissa Martinez; to his sisters,  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Janie, Sonia, Chayo, and Patricia; to his brothers, Ruben, Jaime,  |

        Jeremy, and Toby; to his grandchildren and great-grandson; and to  |
