     Designates month of February 2014 as "Career and Technical Education Month" in New Jersey.

An Assembly Resolution designating the month of February 2014 as "Career and Technical Education Month" in New Jersey.

 

Whereas, The National Association for Career and Technical Education has designated the month of February 2014 as "Career and Technical Education Month"; and

Whereas, Employment trends and opportunities in New Jersey and throughout the world are rapidly evolving due to economic and technological changes, and career and technical education programs enable our education system to meet these new demands; and

Whereas, Parents and students in New Jersey seek educational choices that will launch students on rewarding career pathways with opportunities for continued education, specialized skills, and professional growth; and

Whereas, Career and technical education programs provided by New Jersey's 21 county vocational-technical school districts successfully prepare more than 31,000 secondary students each year for college and careers in a wide variety of industries and professions; and

Whereas, Career and technical education programs of the 21st century link rigorous academics, technical knowledge, real-world experiences, and college-level experiences to help students develop workplace skills valued by employers and better prepare them for post-secondary education and challenging careers; and

Whereas, The State's county vocational-technical school districts thrive thanks to the support of thousands of New Jersey employers, large and small, who are committed partners that believe in the mission of career and technical education; now, therefore,

 

     Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    This House hereby designates the month of February 2014 as "Career and Technical Education Month" in New Jersey to recognize and promote the educational, economic, and societal benefits that career and technical education provides to the State.

 

     2.    The Governor is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon New Jersey employers, students, parents, and citizens to learn more about the opportunities offered by the vocational-technical school districts in their counties; and encouraging State leaders and citizens to acknowledge the educational, economic, and societal benefits that career and technical education provides to New Jersey.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This resolution designates the month of February 2014 as "Career and Technical Education Month" in New Jersey to recognize and promote the educational, economic, and societal benefits that career and technical education provides to the State.  The Governor is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon New Jersey employers, students, parents, and citizens to learn more about the opportunities offered by the vocational-technical school districts in their counties; and encouraging State leaders and citizens to acknowledge the educational and economic benefits provided by these institutions.
