H.F. 124 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 724.26A Sale or transfer of large 1 capacity ammunition feeding devices —— penalty. 2 1. For purposes of this section, a “large ammunition feeding 3 device” means a magazine, belt, drum, or similar device that has 4 a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to 5 accept, more than ten rounds of ammunition. 6 2. A person who sells or transfers any large capacity 7 ammunition feeding device commits an aggravated misdemeanor. 8 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act, being deemed of immediate 9 importance, takes effect upon enactment. 10 Sec. 3. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to any large 11 capacity ammunition feeding device sold or transferred on or 12 after the effective date of this Act. 13 EXPLANATION 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 16 This bill prohibits the sale or transfer of large capacity 17 ammunition feeding devices, provides a penalty, and includes 18 effective date and applicability provisions. 19 The bill provides that a person who sells or transfers any 20 large capacity ammunition feeding device commits an aggravated 21 misdemeanor, punishable by confinement for no more than two 22 years and a fine of at least $625 but not more than $6,250. 23 Under the bill, a “large ammunition feeding device” means a 24 magazine, belt, drum, or similar device that has a capacity of, 25 or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more 26 than 10 rounds of ammunition. 27 The bill takes effect upon enactment and applies to any large 28 capacity ammunition feeding device sold or transferred on or 29 after the effective date. 30 -1- LSB 1684YH (3) 88 mo/rh 1/ 1
