809.5,
subsection
1,
paragraph
f,

subparagraph
(3),
Code
2014,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

(3)
Notwithstanding
subparagraph
subparagraphs
(1)
and
3
(2),
firearms
or
ammunition
with
an
aggregate
fair
market
4
value
equal
to
or
less
than
five
hundred
dollars
shall
be
5
deposited
with
the
department
of
public
safety.
The
firearms
6
or
ammunition
may
be
held
by
the
department
of
public
safety
7
and
be
used
for
law
enforcement,
testing,
or
comparisons
by
the
8
criminalistics
laboratory,
or
may
be
destroyed
or
disposed
of
9
by
the
department
of
public
safety
in
accordance
with
section
10
809.21
.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

The
bill
requires
that
all
firearms
and
ammunition
seized
by
15
law
enforcement
pursuant
to
Code
chapter
809
(disposition
of
16
seized
property)
and
deemed
abandoned
or
for
which
the
owner
17
is
unable
to
be
located
shall
be
deposited
with
the
department
18
of
public
safety
regardless
of
the
fair
market
value
of
the
19
firearms
or
ammunition.
