| 2 |  |  WHEREAS, Gun violence is an epidemic in America and in  | 
| 3 |  | Illinois, touching all parts of the State; and
 | 
| 4 |  |  WHEREAS, The legislative and executive branches of the  | 
| 5 |  | State have lawfully regulated guns and gun trafficking; and
 | 
| 6 |  |  WHEREAS, The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the  | 
| 7 |  | constitutionality of reasonable state gun violence prevention  | 
| 8 |  | regulations; Conservative Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito  | 
| 9 |  | stated in the McDonald decision that state "experimentation  | 
| 10 |  | with reasonable firearms regulations will continue under the  | 
| 11 |  | Second Amendment"; and
 | 
| 12 |  |  WHEREAS, President Trump's administration appears to be  | 
| 13 |  | willfully ignoring the problem of gun violence in America, and  | 
| 14 |  | at the same time, is attempting to coerce municipal police  | 
| 15 |  | forces into diverting their resources towards harassing  | 
| 16 |  | immigrant populations; some municipalities have lawfully  | 
| 17 |  | opposed having their local law enforcement used for such  | 
| 18 |  | purposes and have been dubbed "sanctuary cities"; and
 | 
| 19 |  |  WHEREAS, Some counties in Illinois have erroneously tried  | 
| 20 |  | to liken the cause of a sanctuary city with opposition to gun  | 
| 21 |  | violence prevention measures by declaring themselves "gun  |
