| 2 |  |  WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to  | 
| 3 |  | learn of the death of Janice Marilyn Miller Hartman, who passed  | 
| 4 |  | away on May 26, 2015; and
 | 
| 5 |  |  WHEREAS, Janice Hartman was born on May 2, 1937 to Andrew  | 
| 6 |  | and Mercedes Miller; she grew up in Matherville and graduated  | 
| 7 |  | third in her class from Sherrard High School in 1955; and
 | 
| 8 |  |  WHEREAS, Janice Hartman returned to school after starting  | 
| 9 |  | her family; she attended Lincoln Land Community College in  | 
| 10 |  | Springfield, graduating in June of 1972 with an associate  | 
| 11 |  | degree in science; she graduated from Sangamon State University  | 
| 12 |  | with a bachelor's degree in psychology a year later; she worked  | 
| 13 |  | for a year at the Springfield Mental Health Center and then  | 
| 14 |  | moved to Champaign, where she earned a master's degree in  | 
| 15 |  | social work from the University of Illinois in January of 1976;  | 
| 16 |  | after graduation, she remained to work for the University of  | 
| 17 |  | Illinois, where she taught, administered the undergraduate  | 
| 18 |  | program, and served as an assistant and associate dean for the  | 
| 19 |  | School of Social Work for many years; and
 | 
| 20 |  |  WHEREAS, Janice Hartman was an avid fan of Illini sports  | 
| 21 |  | and attended many events over the years; one of her shining  | 
| 22 |  | moments was when she was able to be an "assistant coach" for  | 
     |

| 1 |  | Lou Henson; she was a founding member of the Crisis Nursery of  | 
| 2 |  | Champaign, serving as president in 1986; she was also a  | 
| 3 |  | founding member of Champaign County Court Appointed Special  | 
| 4 |  | Advocates (CASA) for Children; and
 | 
| 5 |  |  WHEREAS, After retiring, Janice Hartman, and her husband,  | 
| 6 |  | Chuck, moved to Columbia, Missouri for a time; she continued  | 
| 7 |  | her volunteer work in different capacities, in between  | 
| 8 |  | traveling to see family and trips around the world, eventually  | 
| 9 |  | returning to Urbana; and
 | 
| 10 |  |  WHEREAS, Janice Hartman is survived by her husband, Charles  | 
| 11 |  | Cowger; her 6 children from her marriage to Willis D. Hartman,  | 
| 12 |  | Jr., Lisa (Aaron) Sedig, Lori (Jim) Petry, Mark Hartman, Mitch  | 
| 13 |  | (Hope) Hartman, Leslie (Kevin) Rutland, and Kris (Dean)  | 
| 14 |  | Edwardson; her grandchildren, Logan and Caleb Sedig, Adam, Ben,  | 
| 15 |  | and Grace Petry, Laurel Hartman, Aubrey (Logan) Rogers, Kyle  | 
| 16 |  | Rutland, Mitchell (Katherine) Hartman, Laura, Mathew, Michael,  | 
| 17 |  | and Maddux Hartman,Erika Mueller, and Nikolaus Edwardson; her  | 
| 18 |  | great-grandchildren, Ryker Johnson and Hudson Rogers; her  | 
| 19 |  | sisters, Marlene Carlson and Diane Nagovan; and many friends  | 
| 20 |  | and extended family; therefore, be it
 | 
| 21 |  |  RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL  | 
| 22 |  | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of  | 
| 23 |  | Janice Marilyn Miller Hartman, and extend our sincere  |
