| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
 | ||||||
| 2 |  WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of  | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize Sandra Bruce on her years of  | ||||||
| 4 | dedication to Catholic Health Care; and
 | ||||||
| 5 |  WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce took on the role of CEO at Berrien  | ||||||
| 6 | County Hospital at the age of 29 and has continued in strong
 | ||||||
| 7 | leadership roles ever since with more than 35 years of hospital  | ||||||
| 8 | experience; most recently, she served as President and
CEO of  | ||||||
| 9 | Resurrection Health Care for 3 years; she was named President  | ||||||
| 10 | and CEO of Presence Health when the health
system was formed  | ||||||
| 11 | under her leadership from the joining of Resurrection Health  | ||||||
| 12 | Care and Provena Health on November
1, 2011; and
 | ||||||
| 13 |  WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce has previously served as past Chair  | ||||||
| 14 | of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Health Association of  | ||||||
| 15 | the United
States and continues to be an active committee  | ||||||
| 16 | member; she has served on committees within the American
 | ||||||
| 17 | Hospital Association and several State hospital associations;  | ||||||
| 18 | currently, she serves on several councils of the
Illinois  | ||||||
| 19 | Hospital Association; in 2009, she was appointed to the  | ||||||
| 20 | Commission on a High Performance Health
System (The  | ||||||
| 21 | Commonwealth Fund) to help shape health reform; she also  | ||||||
| 22 | remains enthusiastic about
mentoring other women as they  | ||||||
| 23 | navigate their own career paths by identifying talents and  | ||||||
 
  | |||||||
  | |||||||
| 1 | skills where they can
excel; and
 | ||||||
| 2 |  WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce was named one of the nation's 2011  | ||||||
| 3 | Top 25 Women in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine; and
 | ||||||
| 4 |  WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce's earliest foray in advocating for  | ||||||
| 5 | social justice was in the late 1960s and early 1970s as  | ||||||
| 6 | Medicaid and
Medicare were being put into place; her commitment  | ||||||
| 7 | to being a voice for the voiceless led her to shaping
policies  | ||||||
| 8 | we take for granted today; and
 | ||||||
| 9 |  WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce is a Fellow in the American College  | ||||||
| 10 | of Health Care Executives; she holds a master's degree in  | ||||||
| 11 | health
administration from the University of Notre Dame and a  | ||||||
| 12 | bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University; and
 | ||||||
| 13 |  WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce has been an influential healthcare  | ||||||
| 14 | leader and a strong advocate for improving access to care for  | ||||||
| 15 | all; she has indicated
her strong attraction to public and  | ||||||
| 16 | religious health care organizations because they share a common  | ||||||
| 17 | goal - to
ensure all patients receive a high quality of care  | ||||||
| 18 | regardless of their means; therefore, be it
 | ||||||
| 19 |  RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE  | ||||||
| 20 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we  | ||||||
| 21 | recognize Sandra Bruce on her years of dedication to Catholic  | ||||||

| 1 | Health Care and thank her for her service in helping those in  | ||||||
| 2 | need; and be it further
 | ||||||
| 3 |  RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be  | ||||||
| 4 | presented to the Sandra Bruce as an expression of our esteem  | ||||||
| 5 | and respect.
