2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kenneth Hartman, | ||||||
4 | Jr. on the occasion of his election to the position of | ||||||
5 | President of the Illinois Corn Growers Association; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Ken Hartman, Jr. is a 5th generation farmer who | ||||||
7 | has been farming his whole life; he farms corn, soybeans, and | ||||||
8 | wheat on a family farm near Waterloo; the farm was once a dairy | ||||||
9 | farm but is now a grain farm; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Ken Hartman, Jr. attended Waterloo High School and | ||||||
11 | attended a technical school for computer science in St. Louis; | ||||||
12 | he later worked for a bank for about 6 months before returning | ||||||
13 | to the farm where he now lives with his wife, Anita, and their | ||||||
14 | 3 daughters, Amanda, Alexis, and Ashley; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Ken Hartman, Jr. has served on the board of the | ||||||
16 | Illinois Corn Growers Association for 6 years and served as | ||||||
17 | Vice President before his election to the position of | ||||||
18 | President; while on the board, he represented corn farmers in | ||||||
19 | Bond, Clinton, Madison, Monroe, St. Clair, and Washington | ||||||
20 | Counties; and

21 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Corn Growers Association, |

| |||||||
1 | established in 1972, is a grassroots membership organization | ||||||
2 | with 5,000 members representing the needs and interests of corn | ||||||
3 | farmers throughout the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The board of the Illinois Corn Growers | ||||||
5 | Association, which consists of 15 directors representing | ||||||
6 | specific districts in Illinois and 3 at-large directors, | ||||||
7 | coordinates and conducts market development and creates | ||||||
8 | legislative and public relations programs to benefit corn | ||||||
9 | producers; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Corn production in Illinois totals 15.1% of the | ||||||
11 | entire production in the United States, ranking Illinois as | ||||||
12 | second in the nation for both corn production and acreage; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, In 2013, Illinois farmers harvested over 2.1 | ||||||
14 | billion bushels of corn from 12 million acres of farmland, | ||||||
15 | which was used for food products, livestock, and, increasingly, | ||||||
16 | for the production of ethanol fuel; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Through Ken Hartman, Jr.'s leadership, the | ||||||
18 | Illinois Corn Growers Association will continue to work to | ||||||
19 | expand Illinois corn in the ethanol market to deliver high | ||||||
20 | demand following a record breaking harvest in 2014; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Ken Hartman, Jr. and the Illinois Corn Growers |

| |||||||
1 | Association will lead the effort to upgrade the lock and dams | ||||||
2 | on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers and increase water | ||||||
3 | quality and nutrition in Illinois, benefiting not only farmers, | ||||||
4 | but all residents of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
6 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
7 | congratulate Kenneth Hartman, Jr. on the occasion of his | ||||||
8 | election to the position of President of the Illinois Corn | ||||||
9 | Growers Association, and wish him the best in his new role and | ||||||
10 | all his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to Ken Hartman, Jr. as an expression of our esteem, | ||||||
13 | respect, and good wishes.
