SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the board of education to reestablish county library advisory commissions.

 

 


     WHEREAS, library services vary from island to island in response to specific needs that are rooted in each island's unique population, demographics, and geography; and

 

     WHEREAS, section 26-12, Hawaii Revised Statutes, authorizes the Board of Education to establish a library advisory commission in each county to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Education on matters relating to public library services; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Board of Education has not established county library advisory commissions; and

 

     WHEREAS, county library advisory commissions can assist the Board of Education with understanding and addressing each county's unique needs; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Board of Education is requested to reestablish county library advisory commissions to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Education on matters relating to public library services pursuant to section 26-12, Hawaii Revised Statutes; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education and State Librarian.
