HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
Urging the United States Government to return lands in Lualualei Valley currently under the jurisdiction of the United States Navy to the State of Hawaii.
WHEREAS, in 1930 and 1933, approximately 1,700 acres in Lualualei Valley were taken from the Hawaiian Home Lands under federal executive orders from the Territory of Hawaii and turned over to the United States Navy for ammunition storage; and
WHEREAS, Lualualei Valley is the largest coastal valley on the leeward side of Oahu, and is composed mainly of agricultural land; and
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii wants to increase its food sustainability and security needs, as well as develop additional agricultural infrastructure, tasks requiring land areas such as those contained in Lualualei Valley; and
WHEREAS, the return of land in Lualualei Valley from the United States Navy to the State of Hawaii would go a long way to helping Hawaii meet its food sustainability and security needs; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, the Senate concurring, that the United States Government is urged to return lands in Lualualei Valley currently under the jurisdiction of the United States Navy to the State of Hawaii; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States, United States Secretary of Defense, United States Secretary of the Navy, Hawaii's Congressional delegation, Commander in Chief of the United States Pacific Command, and Governor.
