Section 16.63, Florida Statutes, is created to 7 read: 8 16.63 Medical Reimbursement Program for Victims of Mass 9 Shootings.—The Medical Reimbursement Program for Victims of Mass 10 Shootings is established in the Department of Legal Affairs to 11 reimburse trauma centers verified or designated pursuant to s. 12 395.4025 for the medical costs of treating victims for injuries 13 associated with a mass shooting. As used in this section, the 14 term “mass shooting” means an incident in which four or more 15 people are killed or injured by firearms in one or more 16 locations in close proximity. The Department of Legal Affairs 17 must reimburse such trauma centers based on a department 18 approved fee schedule for the documented medical costs of 19 treating victims for injuries associated with a mass shooting. A 20 trauma center that requests a reimbursement through the program 21 must accept the reimbursement as payment in full and may not 22 bill the victim of a mass shooting or his or her family. 23 Section 29. The sum of $10 million in recurring funds from 24 the General Revenue Fund is appropriated to the Department of 25 Legal Affairs to reimburse verified or designated trauma centers 26 for documented medical costs of treating victims of mass 27 shootings through its Medical Reimbursement Program for Victims 28 of Mass Shootings. 29 Section 30. Each January 1, the Department of Agriculture 30 and Consumer Services shall transfer 10 percent of the fees 31 collected for new and renewal concealed weapon or firearm 32 licenses from the Division of Licensing Trust Fund to the 33 Department of Legal Affairs to reimburse verified or designated 34 trauma centers for documented medical costs of treating victims 35 of mass shootings through its Medical Reimbursement Program for 36 Victims of Mass Shootings. 37 38 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 39 And the title is amended as follows: 40 Between lines 1933 and 1934 41 insert: 42 creating s. 16.63, F.S.; establishing the Medical 43 Reimbursement Program for Victims of Mass Shootings in 44 the Department of Legal Affairs; defining the term 45 “mass shooting”; requiring the department to reimburse 46 verified or designated trauma centers for certain 47 costs associated with treating victims for injuries 48 associated with a mass shooting; requiring a verified 49 or designated trauma center that requests a 50 reimbursement to accept it as payment in full; 51 providing an appropriation; requiring the Department 52 of Agriculture and Consumer Services to transfer, 53 annually and by a specified date, a percentage of the 54 fees collected for new and renewal concealed weapon or 55 firearm licenses from the Division of Licensing Trust 56 Fund to the Department of Legal Affairs to reimburse 57 the trauma centers;
