AN ACT CONCERNING YOUTH VIOLENCE AND GANG-RELATED ACTIVITY.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to (1) establish a cooperative effort involving local, state and federal law enforcement officials, outreach workers, probation officers and local service providers under which participants would meet formally or informally with a targeted group of youth including, but not limited to, known gang members or former gang members, drug traffickers, children and youth who have violated the terms and conditions of probation, and youth with known ties to gangs and street crime, in order to inform such youth of applicable zero tolerance policies and the criminal justice consequences of violent behavior or illegal possession of firearms, and (2) pair probation officers and police officers to make unannounced visits to at-risk youths' homes, schools and places of employment in the evenings and during other hours outside standard workday hours.
