Range is located 15 miles SE of Lewiston on South Tom Beall Road.
From Highway 95: From 1/2 mile North of Lapwai, follow the signs on South Tom Beall Road. The pavement turns to gravel at the 1.1 mile fork. Stay to the right. The range is on your left 4.3 miles from Highway 95.
From Highway 12: From 1/2 mile East of Myrtle, follow Cottonwood Creek Road 6.0 miles to South Tom Beall Road. At 6.5 miles the pavement turns to gravel. The range is on your right at 9.3 miles from Highway 12.
Range Rules:
When arriving or departing range property, all shooters must keep their firearms unloaded and either cased or actions open. The Range Officer (RO) will check all firearms to ensure they are unloaded at check-in; this includes concealed weapons. Safety comes first at all times!
All shooters will sign a release of liability form and will print and sign their name on the Range Log. Persons under 18 years of age may use the range facilities only under the direct supervision of a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult.
Eye and ear protection are mandatory for everyone on the firing line; ear protection is mandatory for everyone when the range is hot.
The RO has the authority to restrict a shooter to only 1 round at a time if the RO observes unsafe behavior.
Pistol shooters must get permission from the RO to draw from the holster. If RO recommends, use the buddy system, and use only the 6-bench side.
Muzzle: Always point the muzzle in a safe direction either down range or muzzle up.
Action: Keep all firearms unloaded and actions open until on the firing line and ready to fire. No rounds will be in the chamber until ready to fire. Firearms can only be loaded on the firing line.
Trigger: At all times, keep your finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until ready to fire.
Know how your firearm operates. If your firearm jams or misfires, keep the muzzle pointed down range and notify the RO.
Be sure your firearm and ammunition are compatible.
Only 1 firearm and its appropriate ammunition are allowed on a shooting bench at a time, except for scheduled supervised matches.
No alcohol or illicit drugs are allowed on the range. Anyone appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed on the range.
A person may set up or remove equipment from the firing line only when the range is hot. Firearms will not be handled during a cease fire. During a cease fire, removal of firearms from the range area is only permitted with Range Officer's supervision.
When a "CEASE FIRE" command is given, shooters will immediately cease fire, unload, open actions, lay their firearm on the bench, and step behind the red line. (A muzzleloader will be considered unloaded when there is no powder in the barrel, no cap on the nipple, and no powder in the flash pan.) An RO will inspect the firing line to insure all firearms are unloaded with actions open. When the RO has determined that the firing line is safe, the command will be given to allow people to go down range to check targets, etc.
Shooters will only shoot at authorized targets placed directly in front of their shooting bench in their firing lane. Do not shoot at other people's targets. Human picture targets are not allowed. Do not intentionally shoot at target numbers, target frames, or rocks on the range.
Shooters with a center fire firearm must shoot at targets with an earthen berm backstop.
Shooters may retrieve brass from in front of the firing line barrier wall only during a cease fire with the permission of the RO.
Shooters may set up a chronograph only during a cease fire with the permission of the RO. Shooters shall not step over the firing line barrier wall without the permission of the RO.
For safety reasons, none of the following are allowed: 1) fully automatic firearms or devices that simulate full auto fire. 2) 50 BMG guns (including derivatives), 3) incendiary, tracer, or armor piercing ammunition.
No smokeless powder reloading is allowed at shooting benches except for scheduled competition shoots. Smokeless powder reloading is allowed only on tables by the rifle racks.
Black powder reloading directly from powder horns, flasks, or smokeless powder measures is not allowed. An intermediate powder measure must be used.
No walking is allowed on or over berms. Use graveled pathways when the range is muddy.
Before a shooter goes beyond the 100-yard berm, the shooter will place the orange safety cone in a position to be seen by the RO in the office. When the shooter returns, the safety cone will be moved out of sight behind the sliding door wall.
All shooters are expected to retrieve their target stands before leaving the range.
Anyone willfully damaging fixtures or range property may be subject to dismissal from the range. The LCWC reserves the right to seek compensation.
Shooters must always conduct themselves in a responsible and safe manner in accordance with these Safety Rules.
Anyone refusing to leave the range property at the direction of the RO will be considered to be trespassing.
Pets are not allowed loose on range property.
Smoking is not allowed except in designated areas.
Littering is not allowed. Place trash in designated garbage cans. Pick up spent casings and place in designated buckets.
