Range Rules:
1) Any shooter or observer witnessing a dangerous situation at the range must immediately notify the designated range officer. This rule should be stressed to group shooters, particularly first-time shooters at Black's Creek Range.
2) If an unsafe situation is identified, a shooter or the range officer should immediately initiate a cease-fire (see range commands later in this document). The range officer should then close the range and correct the problem.
3) Firearms should remain cased until transported to the appropriate shooting station(s). However, uncased firearms may be transported from a vehicle to the firing line provided; 1. the action is open; 2. the firearm is unloaded; and 3. the firearm is pointed skyward.
4) All individuals actively engaged in shooting must wear regulation eye and ear protection. All non-shooting individuals within 25 feet of the firing line must wear regulation ear protection when the range is open. Contact the range manager if additional eye/ear protection equipment is needed for group members.
5) All firearms behind the yellow "safe" line must remain unloaded with the action open and visible at all times.
6) All loading and unloading of firearms must be done only at the firing line (muzzleloader shooters may load at the back benches but may not cap or prime their firearms until on the firing line).
7) All work on firearms must be done only at the firing line and only when the range is open.
8) No person is allowed beyond the red firing line once the range is declared open.
9) When the range is open, firearms must always be pointed down range. Exception: shooters may move along the firing line with their firearm pointed skyward. Because each range at Black's Creek has concrete floors, firearms must never be pointed down.
10) Once a shooter has completed a course of fire, he/she must unload the firearm (if necessary), open the action and place the firearm on the firing bench/table or back bench rack. The shooter should then step back (away) from the firing line and across the yellow "safe" line, allowing the range officer to clearly observe when each shooter has completed the course of fire.
11) When the range is closed, firearms must remain on the firing bench/table, unloaded with the exposed action open and the muzzle facing down range. Semi-automatic rifle and pistol shooters must remove the magazine, open the action and place the firearm left-side down on the shooting bench. Single-action revolver shooters must open the loading gate and place the firearm left-side down on the shooting bench. Double-action revolver shooters must open the cylinder and place the firearm right-side down on the shooting bench. Black powder revolver shooters must open the loading lever and place the firearm on the shooting bench. Shooters using firearms which do not lock in the open position should insert a yellow open action indicator (available from the range) into the action.
12) When the range is closed, shooters may load detachable magazines, collect spent shell casings and reset targets but may not touch their firearms.
13) Smoking is not allowed within ten feet of the red "firing" line.
14) No alcoholic beverages or intoxicated persons will be allowed on the range.
15) Unattended or unruly children/pets will not be tolerated at the range at any time.
16) Shooters are responsible for cleaning up their shooting position when finished shooting. This includes returning range supplied supplies such as sand bags, scopes, empty chamber indicators etc.
Spent brass is to be placed in the receptacles provided at the range. If you have any questions, ask the range officer.
Failure to abide by any of these rules will be grounds for removal of any shooter or group of shooters from the range.
